ProTom announces that Vahagn Nazaryan, Ph.D. has joined ProTom International as Vice President, Physics.
Vahagn comes to ProTom from Hampton University Proton Therapy Institute, where he has been a key physicist in the successful opening and operation of the proton therapy center. Vahagn, originally from Yerevan, Armenia, received a “Diploma of a Physicist” from Yerevan State University in Armenia in 1999. He received a Ph.D. degree in theoretical Nuclear and High Energy Physics from The College of William and Mary in Virginia (2004). He brings a wealth of knowledge and experience working with proton therapy treatment centers.
Vahagn was engaged by McLaren Health System to be part of the design and construction team and he performed the shielding calculations and the radiation shielding design for the McLaren Proton Therapy Center. Vahagn became very familiar with the Radiance 330 accelerator while at MIT/Bates and has experience working with many of the ProTom family and vendor partners.
Vahagn will be a key participant in completing the McLaren Proton Therapy Center installation, validation, 510(k) approval, and preparation for patient treatment projected for late 2012.
