Radiance 330®Previous generations of monolithic and expensive technology made choosing between protons and IMRT a true dilemma. Now, the choice is clear. New generation technology from ProTom makes protons the obvious choice.
When you invest in protons, you want treatment results to be superior to what you are able to achieve with existing modalities and tools. Many have been waiting for a solution that is financially viable and easier to implement, yet at the same time equipped with the most advanced technology, in order to make the greatest difference in patients’ lives.
It is time to begin planning your proton therapy center with the new generation of proton therapy technology from ProTom International — the Radiance 330®.
The Next Step in Radiation Oncology
This solution makes all treatment sites truly accessible with protons. The Radiance 330® is a system that has been designed and optimized for modern proton therapy.
Everyone wants the patient to receive the best possible dose distributions, but the limitations of previous generations of technology and practical constraints required operators to over-emphasize “simple” treatments, largely due to the amount of complexity and effort required to experience appreciable clinical gains.
Radiance 330® is equipped with the right tools for you to experience the real difference protons are going to make for cancer patients — scanned proton beams, advanced X-ray imaging, and proton radiography† — making it possible to now justify taking this next natural step in the field of radiation oncology after IMRT.
Smaller, Simpler, Easier to Implement
ProTom’s new generation of proton therapy technologies combine best-in-class solutions which provide the most advanced treatment and imaging capabilities in linac-scale proportions. Radiance 330® fits into the space of approximately two linac vaults.* Our new accelerator, gantry and nozzle designs are smaller and simpler to use and optimized for delivering scanning beams. The scaled-down size and weight in this highly efficient design make proton therapy easier to implement and offer you a faster and less expensive installation. In fact, you are likely to find that the transition to proton therapy is less complicated than moving from 3D-CRT to IMRT due to the planning and delivery characteristics of the pure scanned proton beams from the Radiance 330®. And, compared with previous generations of technology, the compact gantry provides a more streamlined, workable, spacious and comfortable environment for your patients and staff.
The accelerator is a new, compact synchrotron, which can accelerate protons up to 250 MeV for therapy applications, and up to 330 MeV for proton tomography techniques. Recent collaborative research, testing, calibration and refinements with accelerator physics and engineering thought-leaders at the MIT-Bates Linear Accelerator Center on a working synchrotron have resulted in over 12 upgrades. Several important advanced features optimized to provide the best possible beam for scanning delivery — including dynamic energy and intensity modulation — stemmed from such refinements.*
ProTom is the first and only proton therapy vendor to have a prototype which has demonstrated an extracted beam with a scanning beam delivery system.
Fidelity™ Beam Scanning††
Our new compact gantry and nozzle were designed and optimized for scanned proton beam delivery. The simplicity and elegance of our Fidelity™ Beam Scanning system makes the transition into 3D IMPT easier to implement than moving from 3D-CRT to IMRT. Precise delivery control and safety systems in harmony with treatment planning assumptions assure you of the greatest fidelity between planned and delivered dose. Compared with previous generations of technology, Fidelity™ Beam Scanning provides high efficiency beam utilization, faster treatment sessions, lower operating costs and the highest-quality dose distributions for the amount of effort expended available in radiotherapy today.
Imaging at a New Level
ProTom is developing the first center in the world to open with image-guided proton therapy utilizing cone-beam CT. Operated with robotics on a C-arm, the system provides 3D position verification and adjustment with six degrees of freedom. The imaging system also supplies 2D orthogonal pair patient treatment positioning and fluoroscopy applications. ProTom also offers in-room conventional CT for imaging the patient in treatment position.
The ProTom Tomography™† system enables proton radiography and proton CT using the therapy beam. Proton radiography is a direct measurement of stopping power; therefore, superior accuracy can be achieved in treatment planning calculations. In vivo measurement of tissue-specific stopping powers will greatly reduce the uncertainty and errors in proton range calculations, especially in treatment situations where there are multiple, strong tissue interfaces, such as in head and neck and lung treatments.
The Radiance 330® is the only system with this capability, due to the higher energy range of 330 MeV/u available from the synchrotron.
Together, Fidelity™ Beam Scanning and ProTom Tomography™ provide tools to assure the highest confidence in interpretation of planned and delivered dose distributions.
